A colostomy is a surgical procedure that deals with one of the tips of the large intestine out through the abdominal wall. During this procedure, A tip of the colon is channeled through an incision in the abdominal wall to create a stoma. A stoma is the opening in the skin where a pouch for storing digested food is connected. People with temporary or long-term colostomies have pouches connected to their sides where digested foods get stored and can be easily disposed of.
