Carpal Tunnel Release Surgery

Carpal tunnel release surgery is used to minimize the pressure on the median nerve in the wrist. This is done by removing the ligament that composes the top of the carpal tunnel. Median nerve releaves the pressure aftre cutting the ligament. Any other tissue (such as a tumor) that may be putting additional load on the median nerve can also be eliminated during surgery.

The carpal tunnel is a narrow passageway on the palm side of your wrist up composed of bones and ligaments. Due to this is a quck surgery, there are chances that this will be a low cost neuro surgery The median nerve is responsible for the alertness and motion in the thumb and first three fingers, travels through this passageway along with tendons to the fingers and thumb. When it's squeezed or compressed, the result is tingling, numbness, weakness, or pain in the hand.

Women are three times more likely to have carpal tunnel syndrome. Certain conditions can also increase your risk. These include:

1. rheumatoid arthritis, Diabetes, gout and hypothyroidism.

2. Pregnancy

3. Fracture of the wrist or Sprain
