Pediatric Elbow dislocation

The elbow dislocation occurs when the bones which makes the joint is forced out of its position. In newborn, the elbow dislocation is called as nursemaid’s elbow. They experience elbow dislocation if they are lifted or swung by their forearms.

Symptoms

• Distortion of joint.
• High pain.

Causes

• Trying to lift the child by arms can cause the elbow dislocation.
• Having the child suddenly step off a curb or stair step as you’re holding his or her hand can pull the elbow out of alignment.

Risk and Complications

• Age.
• Hereditary.
• Fracture.
• Osteoarthritis.

Surgery

The elbow dislocation surgery is needed if-

• Blood vessels need to be repaired.
• To reattach the torn ligament.
